[Game Review] iFiction

iFiction

iFiction is a text-based adventure. It is played by typing the command like "enter", "take item", etc. The problem with this game is it lacks of instructions. I even need to ask my friend how to play this game. Because the only instruction is the move command and it's not even working at the starting point. Who can figure it out that the ONLY command we can use at starting point is "enter" ?
Enough of the rant, here's the Four Elements of iFiction:
  1. Mechanics - The goal of this game is to look for treasure and exit the game using the bomb.
  2. Story - The storyline is too simple and the wording is far from novel-standard.
  3. Aesthetics - The game looks...doesn't looks like game, sounds...nothing because there are no BGM or SFX, and feels boring.
  4. Technology - It use some kind of modified command prompt as the interface. For current time it is really bad, but maybe during that time (19th century), it is a revolution.

[Game Review] The Legend Of Zelda

80's Game Review

The Legend Of Zelda

Introduction:
The Legend of Zelda is one of the most famous Action RPG (Role Playing Game) series first released in Japan 1986 on the Famicom disk system by Nintendo and later developed into many versions on different hardware.

Story:
Goddess of Wisdom, Power, and Courage have been created the world and living things and left the artefact called "Triforce" in the sacred realm which represent the will of three goddess and it will grant the wish to any person who find it whatever they are good or bad person. The princess of Hyrule "Zelda" is the one who held the secrete of "Triforce" has been kidnapped by the the guy who seeking for the power of god to dominate the world "Ganon". The destiny of hero has been chosen for young elf Hylian "Link" who will save the princess and protect the world from the evil.

Interactivity:
Players are able to control the hero "Link" to move in four directions and attack enemies or pick up items by using the controller. Players can use items by go to the menu mode and choose inventory to see the collection of items. Some items that players purchase from the store or pick up from the dungeon such as potions or weapon can be sell back to the store unless it is a key item. Players can interact with NPC in the game to ask for the information, clues, or quests by stay near to that NPC and press the interact button. Players can save their progress for playing next time by go to the menu mode and choose save.

Concept:
The atmosphere of the game represent the feeling of the adventure in the fantasy world. Players have to walk through many places such as wood and cave. On the way, they will find many houses and Npcs which they can interact with like the experience in the reality that we have to communicate to each other for the information.

Goal:
The goal of this game is to save the princess and the world from the guy who seeks the power of domination. Players need to solve the problem in each given task by searching for the information and items in different places. In the end, players have to fight the last boss by attack him until he die.

Challenge:
The challenge in this game is there are many tasks that we have to solve by searching in different places to get the information or key items and fight different enemies. Sometimes players might get lost because they don't know what to do or they can't find the item that is required.

Conclusion:
The Legend of Zelda has a great story line that attracted so many gamers and become a real legend as its name. In my opinion, the over all view in the game is perfect includes the story, graphic and music etc. Although in 80's the quality of graphic is still not improve but it shows the feeling of the classic game that reminds many people of their old happy time.
